Managed to film the first surreal clips. I should have enough to complete that segment, when I edit on Monday. I started by placing a pen on a white surface and aiming a 200 watt light at it. I then filmed the pen as close as I could get without seeing the camera’s shadow. The pen’s barrel was made of transparent plastic, which provided for some very interesting shadows. After this stage was complete, I attempted the more abstract images. My aim was to take objects that retained the properties of the pen and film them. In this case, the pen was made of: ink, clear plastic, and black plastic. Mix with this the fact that the pen is made mostly of circles and cylinders. I found objects that retained these quality’s, in that they were either/or made of plastic and black or clear. I then found a black liquid and poured it over the objects while filming. My plan in the editing phase is to start with clips of the pen and then switch to the clips of cylindrical plastic objects with liquid. There was one final clip in need to discuss. This is the clip of the dark liquid having another, brightly colored, liquid poured inside. I intend to use this clip to illustrate the fact that the character, Vincent, is starting to see a plane of existence past the enhanced understanding of the object. A white and black liquid environment is startling to him when he is studying the pen: which should only be experiencing Black liquid and plastic. More will be posted as I progress farther. Hopefully there will be production pictures up next time I post.
